Adventures

These are our favorite places to try wine and hike around Sonoma. We hope you have the chance to visit them and enjoy!

Wineries

Gundlach Bundschu

Some of our happiest memories are at Gundlach Bundschu (pronounced “gun-lock-bun-shoe”). There are many beautiful spaces to sit outside, and the large collection of wines will not disappoint.

Make a reservation to taste their wines or sign up for guided tours through their cave or around their vineyards.

Bartholomew Estate

This vineyard doubles as an amazing hiking location. It sits on a 375-acre private park, open to the public at no charge. They have a 3.5 mile hiking trail around the vineyards and offer wine tastings outdoors in a beautiful garden with a great view. It is run as a non-profit winery, which means that all of the profits from wine sales go to maintaining the land.

You can visit the park to hike without a reservation or make a reservation for a tasting or horseback riding tour around the property.

Abbot’s Passage

This is the sister winery to Gundlach Bundschu. The team here experiments with field-driven blending and co-fermentation to create unique wines. This winery offers a beautifully modern and rustic tasting room, a coffee shop, and some trails to walk around the vineyards.

Stop by to taste the wine and shop at the mercantile shop.

Iron Horse Vineyards

This winery is best known for their sparkling wines, but also make delicious chardonnays and pinots. This outdoor tasting experience has stunning views overlooking rolling hills of vineyards. It’s a bit of a drive from Sonoma, but worth it if you’re up for it or looking for some sparkling wine.

Iron Horse is reservation only.

La Roche Winery

This family-run winery has two locations. One location is in Sonoma Plaza, right next to The Girl & the Fig restaurant. It has a nice outdoor porch and garden patio with plenty of shade. It is open later than most other wineries, so it’s a great place to stop before grabbing dinner around the plaza.

It’s usually easy to taste here without a reservation, but we recommend booking one ahead of time if you can.

Hiking

Sonoma Overlook Trail

This easy trail is 2.5 miles and good for all skill levels. It features beautiful wild flowers and wonderful views of Sonoma’s vineyards. It is an out-and-back trail, which means that you could turn around at any point.

Jack London State Historic Park

This park is a memorial to writer and adventurer Jack London who lived here from 1905-1916. This historic hike is located within the ancestral territory of the Coast Miwok. There are 5 moderate trails in Jack London State Historic Park ranging from 3.6 to 8.6 miles and from 209 to 2,372 feet above sea level.

Point Reyes National Seashore

This is a bit of a drive out to the Pacific coast from the resort (it will take at least an hour), but the views and hikes are well worth it! You can expect to find hard hikes here along coastal cliffs with great views of the ocean. We especially like the Tomales Point Trail.
